Dr. Seuss Lunch and Recipe Ideas for National Read Across America Day

Dr. Seuss is definitely one of our family's favorite authors, big surprise right? This is one of the reasons why we love National Read Across America Day, which happens to be Dr. Seuss' birthday. It's this week so we thought we would celebrate by making my kids a school lunch that includes a nod to a few of their favorite Seuss books! While you're making this one, check out some more Dr. Seuss recipe ideas from my blog.

Harry Potter Dumbledore Lunch

Monday, April 23, 2018

The Harry Potter series has so many fantastic characters that it's hard to pick one to feature. The good news is that both of my older kids love it so it gives an endless supply of ideas for lunches and special treats. For today's lunch I wanted to highlight Dumbledore because he is such an interesting part of the series. I wanted to show his fierceness and wild side that he exhibits when the situation calls for it. While he has a soft side for Harry, Hermione, and Ron, he is always quick to step up and lead. I hope my kids remember how important that is when they are faced with tough decisions at school. Maybe this lunch will help!

I created it in an Easy Lunch Boxes container and also made a video showing how I put Dumbledore together. Watch the video first, and then check out the recipe to see the ingredients and how I made the rest of the lunch!

Lunchbox Dad's Huge 2015 Holiday Gift Guide!

Wednesday, December 2, 2015

The holidays are stressful enough without having to worry about what gifts are winners and which presents are epic failures. Don't worry, here at Lunchbox Dad I have you covered. After all, part of the mission of this blog is to bring you ideas and tools that make your life easier. I have sifted through many of the hottest products out there and brought to you all the greatest holiday offerings that are perfect for parents and kids. As always with my gift guides, I have not been paid by any of these companies and I have personally been hands on with every single gift listed here. So rest assured that I have already done the hard work for you. Your most difficult job will now be to choose which toy, tech, or book, snack, or suit is right for your family!

Toys

GoldiBlox
Toys that encourage STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) learning are some of the hottest out there right now and Goldiblox is one of the originals. My daughter has loved their toys for awhile and I love that it encourages imagination and engineering by building a multitude of different objects and structures. They also regularly release new toys that are continually empowering young girls.

Star Wars Remote Controlled BB-8
You might have heard that there's a little movie coming out this month about a galaxy far, far, away. There's also a few toys being released. Ok there might be a ton of toys being released for Star Wars, but this Hasbro BB-8 droid is one of the coolest remote controlled toys I've ever played with. The head spins independently of the body and it is amazing how it moves. It's also much less expensive than the similar Sphero model.

Chronicles of Narnia The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe Lunch

Year 2, Week 25: Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe Lunch. My daughter and I have been slowly reading our way through this series at night. My dad read it to me when I was her age and I was so excited to read it to her. I thought it would be fun to make this story book bento for Read Across America month. If you have never read the Narnia series it is full of magic, battles, good vs. evil, and plenty of adventure. It is also teeming with symbolism. C.S. Lewis, the author, was great at this! This lunch has symbolism too. The veggies around the wardrobe are the forest that the kids in the story find when they enter Narnia. The tuna salad inside the sandwich looks a little like snow and reminds me of how, in Narnia, it is always winter, never Christmas!

In this lunch you will also see the White Witch, Aslan the Lion, and The magical wardrobe which transports the kids to Narnia. So have some fun with your kids this month and read them a book. If they are old enough, read them the Chronicles of Narnia. You both will have a great time doing it and they will love spending the time with their dad.

The White Witch Narnia LunchThis is made in a Laptop Lunches lunchbox. They are highlighting story book bentos all month, so make sure and check them out! Please remember to follow me on Twitter and Facebook. I have tons of fun on their sharing many things and talented people. You can find my social media buttons on to easily go there on the right.

Ingredients
2 slices whole wheat bread
Your favorite sandwich filling, I used tuna salad
Handful of broccoli and snap peas
1 slice cheddar cheese
Nori (dried seaweed)
1 handful yogurt covered raisins
Dried peach
Dried Mango, orange and green
5-6 Blackberries
Handful dried blueberries
1 Babybel cheese round
Shredded Coconut
Food Coloring

Aslan the Lion Narnia Lunch
Directions
1. Cut one slice of bread into a simple wardrobe shape. Then cut the other slice to fit behind it. Use black food coloring and a toothpick to paint the details. Fill with your child's favorite sandwich filling.
2. Place sandwich in main container. Surround with broccoli and snap peas. Cut slice of cheese to fit and place in container. Shape the letters "Narnia" out of Narnia. Arrange them on top of the cheese.
3. Cut mane out of dried peach circle as shown in picture. Cut dried mango in the shape of a lion or cat head. Use food coloring to draw facial features.
4. Drop yogurt covered raisins in a side dish. Place mane on top and then head on top of the mane.
5. Slice Babybel cheese into a slim head shape. Cut slivers of green mango and press them into top of head to form ice crown. Cut facial features out of nori and arrange on face.
6. Fill second side dish with dark colored fruit. I used blackberries and dried blueberries. Place White Witch head on top and surround it with coconut for her hair.
7. Watch your child enjoy their Narnia lunch!
