How to make a food board that you can can snack on and share with your dog!

How is your family holding up during the dog days of summer? My family is finding every excuse to hang out in our little blow up pool or cool off in air conditioning. One of the things that we find every summer is that my family rarely wants to heat up the house by cooking. On days like this we love creating a food board that our family can snack on. But you know what family member also loves snacks? Your dog!

This is why I decided to put together a food board that is perfect for you and the furriest member of your family! That's right, every food on this platter is dog friendly. From the sweet and crispy Dandy Celery sticks to the popcorn, you can feel good about taking one piece for yourself and giving one to your dog! Of course I had to throw some fun food art ideas on to the board as well.

Dandy Celery Sticks

Dandy Celery sticks are the perfect summer snack because they're cold, crispy and low in calories. For me, the crunch is extremely satisfying when I'm craving something crispy like chips. Plus they are always great for dipping. Your dog will wag its tail off when you dip them in a little bit of peanut butter for them! So let's get down to making this board. Remember that while all of these foods are generally considered safe for dogs, make sure your pet doesn't have any food allergies before you start handing over these treats. Just like people, some pets need specialized diets so it is always wise to consult your vetrinarian with any questions.

I like to start off in the middle of a board, so I cut the Dandy Celery sticks to look like a bone and surrounded them with cubes of cheddar cheese. Celery can actually be a great weight loss food for your dogs if they've put on a few summer pounds. Next I added dragon fruit on one side and mango on the other. Both are highly nutritious for all members of your family.

On the top is unsalted and unbuttered popcorn. Never give your dog unpopped kernels. Laid on top is a dog-shaped piece of bread with peanut butter and a few tiny olive pieces for the eye and nose. It sounds weird but your dog will devour it. I used a cookie cutter to make the canine shape. Below the bone are tortillas cut in the shape of dog paws and a little peanut butter for dipping. Make sure to keep the tortillas to a very small serving size.

In the four silicone cups I included Dandy Sweet Corn cut from the cob, grilled chicken, turkey rolled into the shape of a flower, and a cup of peanuts. Not all nuts are acceptable for dogs so make sure to check before you toss one to them. Peanuts and cashews in moderation can be a great choice.

Last, don't forget to snack on some of this deliciousness yourself. Maybe even share some with your kids too...or don't, it's up to you. Just remember that the next time you need groceries, look for Dandy Celery sticks and build this board to help your family get through the dog days of summer!
