With just a few twists on this classic recipe, your family will each get their own plate to devour as an appetizer or a snack. My teenage daughter was hungrily eyeing these and begging to have one before I was done making them. I made her hold off, but I might have packed some extra tomatoes in her lunch for the next day.

They work equally well for a quick snack by themselves or paired with the ingredients here for a caprese salad skewer recipe. Directions:
1. Slice off the top of the tomato at a sharp angle. Repeat with second tomato, flip it, and hold it together with a skewer to make the heart. Alternately, slice the top off of a tomato, cut the large part in half, flip and put it on the skewer to make a heart. Alternate ingredients on the skewer with mozzarella and basil.
