How to Make a Darling Clementines Flower Food Art School Lunch!

It's never too late in the school year to make a fun food art lunch for your kids! Even in the summertime, your kids will love a good lunch packed with some extra love from you. With a few extra minutes, it's pretty easy to turn your kid's food into a piece of art that they will remember for many school years to come. I love making flower food art because the possibilities are endless and I can incorporate our family's favorite foods, such as Darling Clementines!

Darling Clementines are packed with juicy sweetness from the best citrus groves around the world so we eat them with breakfast, lunch, dinner, or for an on-the-go snack. Maybe most importantly they are the perfect centerpiece for this flower-themed lunch. Look for Darling Clementines in the produce section at a store near you. 

One of the keys to this lunch is taking an idea and making it your own. Will your kids snub their noses at radishes? Use a different veggie. Is hummus not up your family's alley? Try guacamole or ranch dip instead. Don't be afraid to experiment but also encourage your kids to try new foods as well. Keep reading to find out how to make this fun flower lunch!

Ingredients: Darling Clementine, whole wheat bread, sliced white cheese, celery sticks, chips, salami, snap peas, hummus, radishes.

Directions:

1. Peel a Darling Clementine keeping as much of the peel intact as possible. Cut out two different small flower shapes (like shown in the photo) using a knife or a vegetable cutter to make it easy. 

2. Cut a circle the size of the clementine out of a slice of bread and a slice of cheese. Cut bread and cheese in the shape of flower petals. I used a cookie cutter to quickly make the shapes. 

3. Assemble sandwich with slice of bread on the bottom, any desired condiments, then slice of cheese and slice of bread with the holes in the middle. Place in main compartment of lunchbox. Drop clementine in the middle with peels turned into flower shapes on top. Surround with bread and cheese petals. You can "glue" these on with dabs of cream cheese if desired.

4. Arrange celery sticks as the stem and surround with chips like these veggie chips I found. 

5. In glass stack salami slices as shown in photo above. Turn glass upside down and remove salami rose. Place in side compartment and surround with snap peas.

6. In second side compartment spoon in hummus, guacamole, or ranch dip. Cut radishes into mushroom shapes and place in dip. 

The next time you are at the grocery store, look for Darling Clementines and pick up some extra so you don't run out. Believe me, your kids will be asking for them every chance that they get!
