Nothing says fall like football! We just finished up both of my sons' youth football leagues and my daughter is just about done with her first season with the high school marching band, which plays every Friday night at games. I'm also knee-deep in my fantasy football leagues, one of which I'm barely still alive in but stubbornly hanging on.
I haven't even mentioned watching NFL games yet. We live in Oklahoma which means people live and die with OU and OSU but we are more into the Seattle Seahawks. So yeah, you can say football is a big deal in our house. This is why it is time to break out the football lunch. This lunch features football sandwiches, fall-themed chips and apples, and some pumpkin-shaped desserts. I believe we bought all of these fall-themed sides at Trader Joe's, but you can find similar ones at different stores. Keep reading for the rest of the directions.
Ingredients: Dark wheat bread, cheese, sliced meat, white cheese, leaf-shaped chips, apples, fall-themed desserts.
Directions:
1. Cut two slices of wheat bread into four football shapes. You can even use a cookie cutter to make it easy. Do the same thing with cheese and sliced meat. Build two sandwiches and use cheese "laces" on the top. Place in the main lunchbox compartment with chips underneath.
2. Cut apple slices into leaf shapes. Once again I used a cutter to make it easy but you can do it freehand if you choose. You can also rub the apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning.
3. In the second side compartment stack a few pumpkin-shaped cookies or chocolates for a little treat.
