Halloween Mickey and Minnie Mouse Ears Lunch

Monday, October 17, 2016

My family has been dreaming of Disney World lately. Since we moved to Oklahoma, people all around us have gone to the Magic Kingdom, and we have always wanted to take our kids there. It's also Halloween. One of my favorite memories with my family is visiting Disneyland at this time of year. It's not only magical, but it's magical in a completely spooky kind of way! Hopefully we can take our kids to the Magic Kingdom sometime soon, but until then I thought I would make a Disney themed Halloween lunch for them.

I was inspired by a design I saw on Etsy and just new it was perfect for my kids' lunches. Of course, I had to make a Mickey Mouse one for my son and a Minnie Mouse one for my daughter. It took longer to make two separate lunches, but I think it is worth it. I made both lunches in an Easy Lunch Boxes container and also used Halloween themed Lunchbox Love notes. Read on to find out how to make these for your own kids.

Mickey Mouse Lunch
Ingredients: Dark wheat bread slices, cheddar cheese slice, sliced meat, dried apricots, mandarin orange, black sharpie marker, red apple, slivered almonds, dried blueberries

Directions:
1. Cut two slices of bread in the shape of Mickey Mouse ears. I used a cookie cutter so it was super easy. Cut out the bottom shape from cheddar cheese. Also cut the word "Boo" from cheddar cheese. Place where shown and put sliced meat inside the slices of bread. Optionally you can paste the cheese pieces on using a tiny amount of cream cheese.

2. Drop dried apricots in the bottom of main compartment and put the sandwich on top. Use a black marker to create a jack-o-lantern face on a mandarin orange. Put in side compartment.

3. Cut out a wedge of apple. Slice a smaller wedge out from the first wedge. Poke slivered almonds into the apple like monster teeth. Optionally rub lemon or lime juice on apple to prevent browning. Drop dried blueberries (or raisins) in side compartment and place monster teeth on top.

Minnie Mouse Lunch
Ingredients: Dark wheat bread slices, cheddar cheese slice, white cheese slice, sliced meat, mandarin orange, black sharpie marker, red apple, slivered almonds, yogurt covered raisins, shredded carrots, orange Wilton's Shape N Amaze edible modeling dough.

Directions:
1. Repeat steps above for Mickey lunch, except substitute carrot shreds for dried apricots and yogurt covered raisins for dried blueberries.

2. Cut two slices of bread in the shape of Minnie Mouse ears. I used a cookie cutter to make it easier. Cut out the bottom shape from white cheese. Slice cheddar cheese in the shape of bow and zig zag stripes. Cut out spots on bow from white cheese. I used orange edible modeling dough (mix red and yellow colors), rolled it thin like a snake and formed the cursive letters. Place all pieces where shown and put sliced meat inside the pieces of bread. Optionally you can paste the cheese pieces on using a tiny amount of cream cheese.

  1. Beyond flavor and texture, smash burgers' handcrafted buns add a visual delight to every dish. Their golden-brown exterior and soft interior create an eye-catching presentation, turning each burger into a work of culinary art that beckons diners.
