parenting shows

How many times have us parents heard or said themselves, "Aint Nobody Got Time For That!" It seems to be the parental anthem that governs our lives as we sprint from school to tutoring to swim lessons. Even after our bodies have given up for the day our minds never stop. How many times have you tried to catch up on your favorite Netflix shows and ended up snoring on the couch? It's okay, you can admit it.

That's why I'm joining Netflix in declaring that all parents need to save a little time to relax and catch up on their favorite "Shelfies." What is a shelfie? I'm glad you asked. The official definition is: "The shows you’ve been wanting to watch but they’ve been sitting on the virtual shelf because…well, because you’re a parent and who has the time?"

So dust off those shelfies, grab your favorite snack, and head grab a little parenting break. Because we need to stop saying we don't have to for a few minutes of relaxation and start reclaiming our right to let loose some popcorn and our favorite show! My wife and I couldn't agree on what series to catch up on first so we each made a list. Here our top 6 parenting shelfies to catch up on this Fall:

My List:

Because this prequel to everything Batman grabbed my attention from the beginning. Too bad life got in the way of me finishing the first season. I loved watching the backstories of all
my favorite Dark Knight characters. The Riddler (or Edward Nygma), played by Cory Michael Smith, is a scene stealer! He is so intentionally awkward I wish he played a larger role.

This is one show I always meant to watch but never got around to actually doing it. I saw a few episodes and always promised I'd come back. Kind of like when you intend to do all those little things around the house and never reach the end of your list. Now that it has been rebooted I need to go back and watch the story unfold from the beginning.

Agents of Shield
Agents of Shield

I probably enjoy superhero shoes a little too much. I dove headfirst into Daredevil but something about a series that is a fresh angle on an old story grabs me. I was devoted to this show and then I missed a week here and there because that's what parents do. Pretty soon it was the last thing on my mind. I have to finish the first season soon to get into the second season. I can't believe there's been two seasons already. That's the life of a parent I guess.

My Wife's List:

If there is one show my wife will binge watch this is it. I swear she intentionally misses blocks of episodes just to watch them altogether later. I can never keep all the "squints" straight but she knows all of their stories and especially loves Angela and Hodgins. Who doesn't love someone that is obsessed with bugs, right? Although I don't crave watching this show as much as she does, I have to admit Bones is pretty funny.

Blue Bloods
Blue Bloods

I don't know if she enjoys Blue Bloods more for the cop drama or for ex New Kids on the Block bad boy Donny Wahlberg. Either way she lists this show as one of her favorites of the moment. It's a good thing there are a bunch of seasons of it already on Netflix. This one is filled with drama centered around the grown kids. They argue a lot, so you can get a glimpse of what it will be like to have adult kids in a few years. I guess not much changes when your children grow up.

My wife enjoys this show because she likes to think she comes from a long line of cowboys. I think she has a crush on the guy who plays Branch. At least I hope it's Branch and Longmire. That would be weird. Regardless, she has found hours of enjoyment watching this one. If you are looking for a show cowboys and crime drama, then you might want to add this one to your list.

Disclosure: I am sharing about Netflix because I am part of the Netflix Stream Team. I was not compensated but I am provided Netflix service and equipment to watch their streaming service. All opinions are solely my own.
