Ever since my daughter was little she has wanted to be in the kitchen making stuff for others to eat. For awhile she even had a dream of having a YouTube channel showing people how to bake different dessert creations. Fast forward a few years and she has moved on from the YouTube idea, but not from cooking. In fact, her younger brothers love being in the kitchen as well. Whether it is with my wife, their grandma, or me, they almost always ask to help out. This is why I was so excited for them to try out the new Young Chefs' Club from America's Test Kitchen Kids!

The Young Chefs' Club is a monthly subscription box that comes in the mail, but it is designed specifically for kids to learn all about how to cook. But as we have experienced, it is really much more than that!

Each month kids aged five and up can receive a box filled with kid-tested and kid-approved recipes, super fun hands-on experiments, and other special surprises! No food comes with the box, but you get a detailed shopping list of everything you will need. In fact, this actually also comes through email before you receive the box in case you want to be prepared.

Speaking of digital, there is also a companion website where kids and parents can log in to a members only area that includes a huge library of recipes to try, experiments to play around with, videos to learn from, trivia games, and more. There is even a private Facebook group for support and to ask questions of the experts.

All of this is great and all, but does it actually deliver on what it promises? Well, the answer is that it depends on what your expectations are. If you are wanting something where a box shows up at your door with everything that you need and you can just turn your kids loose in the kitchen, then this is not for you. And by the way I would obviously never recommend something like that anyway. However, if you are wanting a subscription where you can spend more time learning alongside your kids, have fun with them, and be impressed with what they can actually do when the activity is complete, then the Young Chefs' Club is exactly what you should be looking for!

Here are the details of what we have experienced so far. We received the November Say Cheese themed box a bit early so we could share it with you all and still leave you time to order it after reading this post. Here are a couple of the experiences that we had together with the Say Cheese box.

First of all, we are big fans of cheese in our house so we were pretty excited to dig in to what this had to offer. I am not going to give away all the surprises, but I will let you in on a few of the box's secrets.

Once we opened the box, we had to try out the Cheddar Fish Crackers recipe. My daughter decided to tackle this one and she did most of it by herself. We just stayed nearby to help with the food processor. She conquered this challenge like a champ and the made from scratch crackers turned out to be really good.

We loved the included "cracker cutter" that made the fun fish shape. Honestly this would have been impossible without it so the box might be worth it just for this one recipe and tool. We all agreed that we want our daughter to make this again!

Next on our list was grilled cheese sandwiches with out middle child. He was so excited to cook these! Why is grilled cheese so interesting? The Young Chef's Club actually made this into a stretchy experiment where you try a few different types of cheeses in the sandwich to see which one is stretchiest. I'm not going to give away the winner though, you will have to discover that on your own!

My youngest son might be the most discerning cheese monger in our family. He knows what he likes and is very vocal about it. Because of this, he was perfect for the cheese tasting challenge. He had to do a blindfold taste test to decide which was the mild and which was the extra sharp cheese. He knew after the first bite. The cheese never stood a chance.

There were other fun gifts in the kit, but you will have to order it to find out the details. The one you see below was a deck of cards for a really interesting game. That is all I will say but we are bringing them for Christmas to our extended family's house. They too are huge cheese fans and will totally be into this game!

After experiencing the November Say Cheese box from the Young Chefs' Club, we are all excited for the next month's box to arrive. We have a six month subscription and I am confident that each box will give us hours of entertainment and education. One of the things that I'm most impressed with is how there was something for all three of my kids. From ages 5-13 they could each pick out a food related activity that was perfect for them.

If your kids are even remotely interested in cooking or food, I would definitely recommend trying a subscription to the Young Chefs' Club. They offer different options depending on how long you would like to sign up for. You can check current prices HERE. I hope you have fun with your kids in the kitchen!
